A funny, bittersweet plunge into the heart of Hollywood, once the mecca of movie-making, the promised land for all Cecil B. de Mille to come.
The tourist guide had warned William Karel: the most dangerous city in the States is dying a slow death. Hollywood has become a gigantic open-air museum. Dreams have disappeared, but miracles still happen. The film is a long tracking shot in the city of vice and virtue: male prostitution, Bogart’s films minus the fag, the Marlboro cowboy who hasn’t taken a drag since 1995 because in Hollywood, just lighting up makes you depraved, the frenzy of shopping, the obsession with health and being thin, people obsessed by sexual harassment, vitamin addicts, no sugar-no salt-no cholesterol-no butter-no fat-no hormone-no alcohol restaurants... and the bottles of “Hollywood Drops” ¬ three drops on a fresh fruit salad gives it a tin can taste ¬ a product designed for kids who eat fruit salad from cans and who can’t stand natural foods.
