SUDAN: SOUTHERN SUDAN, A FORGOTTEN WAR

Director(s): Thierry DEROUET   Contact Contact   Download Print page

Gabriel is nearly twelve years old. He hasn’t seen his father, who is fighting on the frontline, for five years. Like thousands of other men, women and children, Gabriel waits for the plane to come and drop the sacks of sorghum from the World Food Programme. These sacks mean survival, for in Agangrial, deep in Southern Sudan, the war has devastated the country and pushed the population to the brink of starvation. The civil war in Sudan has killed two million people in thirty years. Thierry Derouet and Yves Junqua spent two weeks travelling from Rumbek to Yei, from Pakor to Wulu, interviewing soldiers and international aid workers who struggle daily not to be overwhelmed by the emergency. Pictures from the war zone that show desolation and poverty, but also hope.
