For more than thirty years now, a community of Jamaican Rastas has been living at Shashamene in Ethiopia. They made the journey of return, which Marcus Garvey had promised to all the « children of slavery », and settled on land granted to them by Emperor Haile Selassie, the King of Kings, father of rastafarianism. Interspersed with lyrics by Bob Marley, old Papa Ba recounts the dream of a return to Africa: his ancestor’s departure; the wave of emigration to Europe, London, Notting Hill, in the 60s; and finally the settlement on the promised land of Shashamene of a handful of determined Rastas.
