This unique French sailing school in the magical Glénans archipelago off the coast of Brittany was founded in 1947 by former ‘Resistance’ members Hélène and Philippe Vianney. It earned international recognition for outstanding training and an impressive range of tuition. Courses are run by volunteer instructors who were themselves former trainees

Hélène and Philippe discovered the magical Glénan archipelago, off the coast of southern Brittany, back in 1946 and decided to open a recovery centre for resistant fighters exhausted by war. Later, they set up a string of sailing schools along the coast, in the Gulf of Morbihan, in northern Brittany, Corsica and the western Mediterranean.
These natural beauty spots are veritable sanctuaries that are becoming very popular today. In an interview Hélène Vianney gave before her death, she remembers the beginnings of this unique project. Our bond with the sea, our sensitivity to environmental and coastal protection, were borne out of this singular movement that gathered strength with the passing of the years - as the instructors and students will confirm, because they return to Les Glénan year after year...

"In 'The Glénan, School of Sea', past and present blend into one encouraging us to keep a certain distance from contemporary consumerism that remains blind to the need of the morality of individual action". Sébastien Viguier - KUB. Click here to access more info on KUBweb (in French).
