Between 1989 to 1990 in the sunny Vaucluse region of southern France, five women who’d been friends since childhood, committed seven hold-ups.
In total, they got away with all of 330 000 French francs. These were hold-ups committed to fill the family’s stomach, most of it going straight into the tills of the local supermarket.

They were arrested on their eighth job. The « Gang of Amazons », as the press had dubbed them, were remanded in custody. After their trial in the town of Carpentras, four of them left court as free women and the last was sentenced to just one year in prison.
This is the story of ive women, who took a conscious decision to break the law, and of a town that refused to condemn them.
