YVES DELAPORTE, QUEST FOR SIGNS

Play
After studying the Sámi culture of Lapland, the path of French ethnologist Yves Delaporte led him by chance towards the deaf.
He then learned sign language and immersed himself in the deaf world where he found a rich source for many of his writings. He has also provided innovative and crucial work on the etymology of sign language by collecting regional signs that risk disappearing.

Philippe Guyon takes us to meet this man who’s been working for 25 years - far from the spotlight - to offer a fresh perspective of the deaf, their language and their culture.

AVAILABLE FOR SCREENING: original French (commentary, sub-titles, signing)
