Sequel to the series Stories of a Nation: Immigration.
The story of romantic and marital feelings, from the time when the question of equality arose, in the 19th century... When human rights were debated, when the Civil Code made marriage the basis of the new society, when relationships between men and women were redefined.
The series also looks at how the couple, feelings and desire have evolved and makes the choice to weave together the history of gender equality and the history of love in order to understand where we are at today.
It is also a way of giving women their full place in this story, just as we did for immigrants in the previous series, at a time when, from the Me too movement to femicides, the land of love and gallantry questions its attitude to love. Quite a hot topic therefore, which can even be more complex than racism and immigration, because it concerns everybody.
This new project is, of course, a story of privacy. Feelings are an intimate issue, but in France, this kind of discretion imposes silence on everything related to sexual stories, but also love or family… to the point of turning family secrets into a national sport. Stories of Love of a Nation, far from seeking the sensational, open the door to the possibility of telling revealing personal stories. The historical angle offers a form of sexual education that looks at burning questions from a distance. Anyone can feel comfortable with that.
Our witnesses accompany this (hi)story, embarking on this new journey and while doing so, they also tell great love stories.
Great archives, many of them hitherto unseen, as well as music are at the heart of this new series.
