After the Second World War, Germany and France must carry out an unprecedented reconstruction policy. In Germany, 40% of the city of Bremen had been destroyed. In France, Dunkirk was razed to the ground by nearly 80%.

To absorb population flows, models for reconstruction are needed. Although urban planning policies are different in France and Germany, they often rely on the same know-how.
On the ruins of industrial cities, post-war planners would be encouraged to experiment with new forms of residential construction: housing developments, housing estates or suburban housing would profoundly affect our lifestyles.
When observed from the skies, the issues facing geographers, urban planners and politicians become much clearer. We discover how town planning radically transformed the landscape.
