Afghan fashion designers offer a radical answer to the debate of women’s wear : the full veil called the chadri. While it is obvious that the tchadri has been imposed upon women by men, one comes to realise that they wear it also for a number of practical considerations – namely for the sake of being left alone.
Another new piece of clothing has become all the rage in the Bush bazaar of Kabul ever since the intervention of the international forces : the bullet-proof vest.

In this episode we learn how to knot a turban from a piece of cloth seven metres long and we’re shown how to recognize the region of each member of parliament just by his headdress and coat. President Karzai – often seen as the world’s most elegant man – has adopted a sort of dress syncretism of all the Afghan ethnic groups in order to ensure for himself the affection of his people.
