Natalie Dessay has been in London in 2007, to prepare her role of “Marie” in Donizetti’s “La Fille du régiment”, together with Juan Diego Florez and “guest star” Dawn French”. This production by Laurent Pelly would be travelling the world for two years after its premiere, to be shown at the ‘Met’ in New York, at La Scala in Milan, as well as in Paris, Vienna and Berlin.
Exceptionally, on the occasion of the performance at Covent Garden, documentary filmmaker ‘Esti’ has been permitted to film everything, from the rehearsals to the first night, recording the creative process of a one of the most noteworthy new opera productions of the decade.
The film follows a buoyant Natalie Dessay as she gets acquainted Laurent Pelly’s staging and works on her character in order to make this role her own.
