OCHOA : A SHOW TRIAL IN CUBA

Gen. Ochoa, who had close ties to the Castro brothers, headed command operations in South America and Africa. In 1988 he won the Angola war and was made a ‘Hero of the Revolution’, the highest distinction awarded by the Cuban leadership.
However, his destiny took a turn for the worse in 1989: on his return to Cuba, he was arrested together with other officers and was charged with fraud and corruption. Ochoa and his fellow officers were found guilty in a show trial and executed on 13 July 1989.
According to an officer of the Cuban Ministry of the Interior who kept a close watch over Fidel Castro’s personal archives, Castro had hoped that the pictures of the Ochoa trial would be forgotten… but exiled Cuban director Igor Leon had been digging out these pictures for this series...
