Yoni (Jonathan) Jesner had come to Israel for two years’ religious studies in a yashiva. He was a brilliant student, very religious, and he was open to the world...always there for others. He had wanted to become a doctor, but died aged only 19, in September 2002 – a victim of a bomb attack while he travelled by bus to Tel Aviv.
He was still alive when he arrived at the hospital, but was soon declared brain-dead. The surgeons asked his parents to consider donating his organs for transplantation. At first, they hesitates, but after consulting with a Rabbi, they accepted.
Only later did they discover later that their son’s kidneys had been given to Yasmina, a little Palestinian girl. It had been purely coincidental, but had immediately been transformed into a political symbol by the media, with the help of some doctors.
This is the story of Yoni, seen through the eyes of his friends, his family and all those who counted in his short life. A very moving document that reveals the daily strife of two peoples, two communities, who suffer from a political conflict inflicted upon them;
