A young Scottish Jew dies in a bomb attack on an Israeli bus. At the hospital, his parents agree to an organ transplant and a little girl receives one of his kidneys. She is seven years old and … she is Palestinian.

Yoni (Jonathan) Jesner had come to Israel for two years’ religious studies in a yashiva. He was a brilliant student, very religious, and he was open to the world...always there for others. He had wanted to become a doctor, but died aged only 19, in September 2002 – a victim of a bomb attack while he travelled by bus to Tel Aviv.
He was still alive when he arrived at the hospital, but was soon declared brain-dead. The surgeons asked his parents to consider donating his organs for transplantation. At first, they hesitates, but after consulting with a Rabbi, they accepted.

Only later did they discover later that their son’s kidneys had been given to Yasmina, a little Palestinian girl. It had been purely coincidental, but had immediately been transformed into a political symbol by the media, with the help of some doctors.
