Workers are not dead, they only have changed: 27% of jobs are occupied by workers. The fact is just that these jobs are more and more precarious. Wages have melted away, life is harder, children cannot find any work: the 1995 worker sees his world crumbling away piece by piece. He no longer goes on vacation, the social lift is definitely out of order. The Granval family, from Sotteville-lès-Rouen, is the perfect example of a railroad working class family, with deep roots and a working class identity. By showing their everyday life, as naturally as possible, this film portrays the French working-class, which is nowadays gagged to silence.
