Islands have always fuelled the traveller’s imagination. Travel agents the world over, use island pictures for their advertising campaigns. Size doesn’t seem to matter – even the tiny islands in the “Mer d’Iroise”, a stretch of water in the sea off the Brittany coast - attract their share of summer tourists.
More and more visitors come to these tiny specks of land in search of a small corner of paradise… or something close to it. Just as if these picturesque islands were to fulfill some kind of void created by our hectic lifestyle. Paradoxically, their need for getting away affects not so much the islands’ traditional way of life – already undergoing profound change - but their very stability.
