To the southwest of Paris, 30 families of Russian immigrants have settled in the “Moulin de Senlis”, a derelict castle near Montgeron, dating back in part from the 15th century. In its overgrown park, in the shadow of its Byzantine church, they have re-created a corner of Russia. But just as in St. Petersburg, Moscow or Kiev, the intellectuals and the ‘economic migrants’ try to ignore each other, mistrust each other. Through time and space, the old atmosphere of suspicion has followed them to France, from the remnants of the Soviet empire. Their hopes and dreams – and their nostalgia – have found a home in this crumbling place near Paris that might as well be somewhere back in Russia…
