Pantanal is one of the last sanctuaries for wild animals in the world. It is a region of marshland, between the Andean Cordillera and the Mato-Grosso plateau, in the south of Brazilian Amazonia. In order to survive in this flooded territory, its inhabitants had to become outlaws : they are now cayman hunters and are chased by the police. In spite of the ban on cayman hunting, one million animals are killed each year and illegally exported to Paraguay.
