Why is it that some houses – or better, some ‘homes’ – seem so much at harmony with their environment as if they had grown together over a long time ? We wonder why a certain structure or colour looks so natural in one region, but would be totally out of place in another. We marvel at the variety of styles…
Our series not only visits some of the most picturesque regions in France, but it also is an architectural voyage of discovery of homes and houses in Alsace, Brittany, the Basque Country, the Gers, the Bresse and - of course -the Provence. The “Homes from Here and Everywhere” are in fact houses from ‘here and today’ – not some of those pale imitations of ancient homes, but true contemporary creations with an original design, houses that have a ‘rapport’ with their environment that had been impossible to imagine in the past.
