AUSTRALIA, THE ROAD TO TANAMI

In some remote parts of the world, only trucks can deliver vital supplies. The truckers are adventures of modern times.

Two hundred men live and work in the gold mines of the Tanami desert, two hours' flight from Darwin or 800 km from Alice Springs on a dusty road often inundated by overflowing creeks. For fuel and vital supplies they rely on the famous "road train", a 50 m long truck, the longest in the world, carrying 93000 litres of fuel. Mick Stanford has been on the Tanami road for three years, it's a way of life to him and those he meets on the road.
