11. VILLAGE WITHOUT BARRIERS IN BALI

Director(s): Laurent VALO – Writer(s): Laurent VALO   Contact Contact   Download Print page

Play
Bengkala, a small village perched in the mountains north of Bali, counts an extraordinarily high number of deaf people among its inhabitants.

Surprisingly, deaf and hearing people seem to socialise and live together in perfect harmony. Their difference or the language barrier do not appear to be a problem. Katakolok is the sign language specific to the village which has been transmitted from generation to generatio and is shared by all.
Laurent Valo from the “Oeil et la Main” team takes us to this extraordinary place to discover the beauty of its landscapes and the humanity of this community, which shows the whole world that another way of living together is possible.

AVAILABLE FOR SCREENING: original French (commentary, sub-titles, signing)
