LIV ULLMANN & ERLAND JOSEPHSON: Parce que c'étaient eux...

Director(s): Alexandre BARRY   Contact Contact   Download Print page

Both actors are an integral part of the works of director Ingmar Bergamn – separately or together, they appeared in many film or theatrical productions of the Swedish director. Josephson and Bergman met at the university theatre of Stockholm in 1940. The young actor first appeared in one of Bergmann’s early film in 1940. Liv Ullmann entered into the picture in 1965 and definitly became part of the scene in Persona.

Beyond their collaboration in Bergmann’s films, Liv and Erland share a deep and inalterable friendship. This documentary is, above all, a meeting of two actors in a rehearsal room of the Royal Theatre, a place where they both worked a lot, and not just under Bergmann’s direction. A place that is both, empty and yet filled with a life of its own – invisible memories. Together they look back on their career and, in particular, their relationship, the moments they shared and which are at the root of their deep, mutual affection.
