Raymond Pellet spent 41 years running Marie, one of the locomotives of the TMB, the Mont Blanc tramway. He was conductor of the highest railway tracks in France, from St. Gervais to the Eagle’s Nest at 2400 m altitude. His engine has been named after Marie Nourry, daughter of one of the last engineers who hoped to build a railway line right up to the peak of the Mont Blanc. He even invested his wife’s money to electrify the lines in 1956 and buy locomotives which he named after his daughters. He had to abandon his dream in the end. Raymond, however, has been faithful to “his” Marie and for his last run before retirement, the real Marie made the trip from Paris to accompany him.
