Some of them have become café owner, taxi driver, baker, actor, teacher or they are simply retired. Others again are shopkeeper, painter, receptionist, librarian or unemployed.. it doesn't matter really. Some of them are from Spain, Poland, others are from Russia, Cambodia, China, Chile or Afghanistan. They live 'just around the corner', at the other side of the street or next door from you and me.
Today , their life is just like that of anybody else, it seems. And yet... Who has not listened tot heir story, by pure chance, while talking to the taxi driver or the florist ?! Who has not discovered, on those occasions, that their individual history mirrors that of "History" with a capital H - the history, often dramatic, of their country of origin, the history of migration, of wars and political upheaval.
"They" are exiles. they have come to France to start a new life. Each film tells the story of their life "before" and "after". Though their individual destiny and their choices we discoverer entires pages of history of their country of origin: Iran, Chile, Afghanistan, former Yugoslavia, Algeria, China.
