After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989, Daria, an Even woman, decided to leave her village and resettle with her family in the heart of the boreal forest, along the Icha River, in Kamchatka, a peninsula of 200 volcanoes in the far East of Russia, listed as a UNESCO heritage site since 1996.
Relying on the animist knowledge of her ancestors who link the world of humans to that of non-human beings, to the fauna and flora of the forest, helped by modern tools they have at hand, Daria and her clan have recreated over the last thirty years a unique way of life – a stable yet fragile existence - in their camp in Tvaian.
An immersive journey through one of the most remote regions in the world, an experience that takes place over two seasons, in winter then in summer, and invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship we have with the ecosystem that surrounds us, at a tme when it is placed under tension within our industrialized societies.
