The announcement came on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 8 p.m.: all high schools in France would close until further notice due to the global health crisis caused by the coronavirus. All students in France are being placed under house arrest for an indefinite period of time.
Early summer vacation? That's one way of looking at it. But for thousands of adolescents in search of autonomy, it’s also the obligation to hit the pause button on a whole new experience of friendly and loving sociability, emancipation and the development of a life of their own, outside the family unit. That means school, of course, as well as the moments of getting together which they increasingly enjoy: afternoons in the city hanging out with friends, or evenings at each other's house....
