As they had all been under age and on their own when they arrived, they had initially been supported by child protection services. But they will soon turn 18 and will become undocumented immigrants in the eyes of the law and thus would be asked to leave the territory.
In his role of ‘big brother’, Yakouba tells of their daily struggle to carve out an existence… Although they badly miss their familes back in their own country, they want to build a future in France and try to move forward. They collect snapshots of their lives here on their mobile phones as if it would tie them to France…
Together, these young people not only face the difficult passage to adulthood, but also the fact of becoming “outlaws”.
