In a landmark case, a trial jury ruled that Monsanto was liable for a terminally ill man’s cancer, awarding him $289m in damages. He was the first person to take Monsanto to trial over allegations that the chemical sold under the brand Roundup causes cancer! Click here for the full article in The Guardian.
OUR FILM:
They came from all over the world to testify to the damage caused to health and the environment. A historical first! The Monsanto Tribunal in The Hague - a civil society initiative - gave a platform to the struggle of farmers, mothers, attorneys, doctors and scientists against multinationals who market a product they consider harmful: glyphosate.
This film provides an account of the trial before internationally renowned judges on 15 & 16 Oct. 2016 in The Hague. Their stories, filmed in France, Argentina, the U.S. or Sri Lanka, plunges us into the reality of their struggle and the suffering of the victims.
The judges gave their legal opinion on 18 April 2017 in The Hague. They considered that Monsanto did not act in conformity with the right to a healthy environment, to health, to food and to the freedom of scientific research...
In the words of one of the witnesses “This tribunal is a historical first, because it has allowed the voices of the victims to be heard across the world."
