S1 - 09. MOUNT GRAHAM, ASTRONOMERS OF THE SACRED MOUNTAIN
Director(s): Etienne DE CLERCK – Writer(s): Serge BRUNIER, Bruno BUCHER Contact Print page
Ever since, the mountain summit has been closed to the public and the Apaches who come to pray up there are considered outlaws. It was enough to create tension between Apaches and astronomers.
Serge Brunier meets with both communities in this emotionally charged atmosphere – with the Apaches who now celebrate their god at the foot of Mount Graham, the priests of the Vatican Observatory who monitor the sky and the astronomers who photograph what’s invisible to the naked eye.
Above all, though, Serge will take us to discover the latest in the class of the giant telescopes, the Large Binocular Telescope, a huge pair of binoculars capable to detect the very first starts of the early universe.
