Three public service sectors are under threat by the liberalisation strategy favoured by the E.U. and sanctioned by successive French governments from the right to the left of the spectrum. This collection tells three similar stories from these very divers sectors. The logic behind deregulation applies to all of them, but the comparison ends there, since each sectors will undergo profound – and very different – changes impacting the daily lives of the French people. Each of these three very different films therefore looks at a specific public service sector with its own set of problems:
THE POST OFFICE, is something of a caricature as their strategy now focuses at fully commercialising the “service” to a point where it will be a far cry from its original public service mission.
THE NATIONAL RAILWAY, SNCF takes the most “liberal” approach, constantly favouring individual road transport with heavy costs to the taxpayers to the detriment of a rail transport for all – which also respects the environment.
NATIONAL ELECTRICITY, EDF is the most worrying sector as current orientation on the energy market might become a threat to the country’s economy and the daily lives of the citizens.
