In the United States, it feels like all highways lead to places with the same name – more than 200 towns and counties named Liberty. A journey to half a dozen of them is a window on the state of America in the 21st century – places that struggle with a variety of issues that define their notion of freedom, such as tolerance in a post 9/11 world, religion, illegal immigration, racism…
Each town offers its own story, told with great insight and a sense of humour by director Alan Handel, who highlights his tale with surprising and sometimes quirky archival material and a cast of memorable characters - as colourful as the country itself.
