The town of Guanajuato, also known as « the jewel of colonial towns », is built on vast deposits of silver that made the fortune of many a conquistador. Five centuries have passed and its cathedral now boasts some 4000 votive offerings : the Saint or the Virgin are the mediators between man and God. On earth, this role belongs to the ‘milagrero’, the man who paints miracles. Leonardo Rivera has been painting votives for the last 35 years for customers who confide in him some of the most important moments of their lives. They are from all walks of life : rich, working class, bull fighters… but mainly they are peasants. Leonardo wants to remain affordable for all.
