Monday 22 Oct. 1995: Superphoenix breaks down yet again... At its conception, Superphoenix was supposed to be the ultimate solution to the energy crisis, its generators multiplying by 100 France's energy resources. Ten years on: sodium and argon leaks, electronic defects, heavy snow causing a roof to collapse. The super generator at Creys Malville has been in full production for the equivalent of barely 6 months. From day one, Green militants found themselves in violent confrontation with the police. Today, the gap separating those for and against is still just as wide. Some locals claim to be living "under the volcano", others defend the technological jewel in their crown.
