Urabà, a rich area of Banana plantation in Columbia. For years para-military forces controlled by wealthy land-owners, guerrilleros and drug dealers have imposed upon the farming population a state of total violence. Faced with murder and slaughter as a daily event, Colombian women from all walks of life have vowed to no longer bring children into a world of blood. Gloria Cuartes is mayor of Apartos, a small city not far from Medellin, and a national figure of resistance. But even her nomination as ‘mayor of peace’ by the UNESCO cannot give enough protection to her and other courageous women who risk their lives fighting for a better future
