The style of French group Zebda, a band of seven musicians, can be best described by "musical métissage". They hail from the northern suburbs of Toulouse and exploded onto the French musical scene in the 1990s with their fusion of rap, raï, reggae, ska, rock, Andalusian guitar, French accordion, and classical violin. In fact, Zebda's style is so hybridized as to be unclassifiable. Moreover, their deliberate blending of particular musical styles articulates a vision of multiculturalism that emphasizes the politically outspoken lyrical content of their songs. Our film starts in the summer of 2001 for the recording of Zebda’s latest album. At the time of filming, they had been together for 13 years! During all those years, they never agreed on anything and yet spent their time saying yes to each other, trying not to go their separate ways. The group had to come first, egos had to fall in behind it. Their creativity has its origins in their different backgrounds, style and political ideas. Of course, it takes a lot of arguments and compromise to produce an album…
