IRAQ:FAREWELL TO ARMS
Director(s): Victoria SCHULTZ – Writer(s): Victoria SCHULTZ Contact Print page
At the end of the Gulf War, from 1991 to 1998, the UN had already established a similar mission in Iraq. The operation had turned into a permanent battle between the inspectors - wanting to enter each site, at any moment and without restriction - and the Iraqi autorities intent on hiding information on the full extent of their arsenal. During these seven years, the inspectors discovered the world's biggest canon, a fearsome stock of biological and chemical weapons and a technically advanced nuclear programme. What has happened since the departure of the inspectors at the end of 1998 ?
Based on hitherto unseen video recording s as well as exclusive interviews with former inspectors, "disarmement warriors" looks at the lessons learnt by the previous mission, the first in the history of warfare.
Will Iraq really accept to cooperate today ? Will it open its doors without any restriction ? And will the members nations of the UN Security Council be able to reach an agreement on how to conduct these inspections ?
