Built in 1996, the Sea Princess is the latest addition to the fleet of a major-league Greek shipowner. The film catches up with the supertanker at Fos-sur-Mer near Marseille, where it delivers its load of crude oil, and follows in its wake to its next port of call at Novorossisk on the Black Sea, where pipelines converge from the oilfields of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
At some point on this journey, the brokers in London will decide its ultimate destination depending on the price of oil at that precise moment. The film pinpoints the specifications of the supertanker and, through the use of archive footage, we also look at the golden age of supertankers, now gone forever.
