100 amateur pianists from all over the world have come together in Paris to participate in the 12th Piano Amateur Competition. They come from all walks of life, all ages, all countries – they are united by their deep love of music and their chosen instrument: the piano. What motivates them work everyday on a particular score, to put themselves through the harassing experience usually reserved for professionals and face a critical jury? Although accomplished musicians, they are not (always) dreaming of an artistic career. Their prime motivation is music and not the competition. Yet… the 2001 award went ex-aequo to two Americans. We meet them and their fellow competitors in this film.
