Conductor Jean-Claude Malgoire is one of today’s foremost Monteverdi specialists. He has recorded his three operas over twenty years ago, trying to deal with the questions that usually come with Monteverdi operas: the size of the ensemble, orchestration, improvising the singers’ vocal line. How best to represent the spirit of the composer’s creation?
