“Latin Noir”, an explosive blend of history, art and crime literature, explores how – in the 1970s - a new generation of Latin American novelists found in ‘noir’ fiction a unique way to confront their countries’ troubled past.
Under the guise of thrillers, they were able to denounce dictatorship, corruption and crime by offering us a unique perspective on the societies in which they live. All the more so, since crime fiction is today one of the most dynamic and creative forms of literature which found a popular resonance with international audiences.
“Latin Noir” takes us to five Latin American cities to meet some of the most notable among this new generation of novelists. Their stories and their personal experience paint a vivid picture of the contemporary history of their respective countries and the radical transformations that have affected the continent: Leonardo Padura (Havana), Luis Sepulveda (Santiago), Paco Ignacio Taibo (Mexico City), Santiago Roncagliolo (Lima), Gulljermo Orsi and Claudia Pineiro in Buenos Aires.
